Nenita grew up in Cebu—she worked hard through school, graduated, but unfortunately was not able to attend college. Her parents, though, were vendors, so opportunities in small business were far from foreign to her. She needed extra income in her household in order to make ends meet, and heard about DBA from a community leader. She was eager and curious to learn more about the program and attended our training. After completing her Business Plan, she was able to qualify for financing from one of DBA’s partners at a much lower rate than the predatory loans many loan sharks offer in the Philippines. These early successes, though, were soon disrupted by an onslaught of heart-wrenching tragedies. Nenita’s husband fell victim to a debilitating stroke, her son tragically passed away, and her home was torn down. But through these tribulations, she is continuing to persevere for her family and has inspired the entire DBA team with her faith and endurance.
She is older now but still wants to provide for her children’s education as best as she can. Right now, her granddaughter is in college and making the family proud. Without our partners, this would never have been possible. We are so proud of our hardworking entrepreneurs, and it has been an honor working with them.
