There is this one person in my life who always asks how business is going with the same oddly hopeful hope that my response will be negative.
When I respond that the business is good and growing I see the same look of surprise with a touch of unbelief, and then I'll hear something like this:
"That's good... you're so lucky, with the economy and all..."
First, I don't live by luck.
Second, I don't live by any worldly economy.
I've tried to explain it but I can't get anywhere. Some people are so stuck in negative thought patterns or so addicted to the negativity of the six o'clock news that they just can't understand how anyone can be positive about anything.
If you have someone like this in your life, do like I do. Make it like a duck and let it roll off your back. You're not going to be able to change them and you mustn't let their negativity soak into your own thoughts.
What you want to do is seek out and spend time with people who have an attitude of faith and expectancy.
You also want to spend time in God's Word, seeking out God's promises about provision. Deuteronomy is a great place to spend some time...
Deuteronomy 11:13-14 reads:
“So if you faithfully obey the commands I am giving you today—to love the LORD your God and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul- then I will send rain on your land in its season, both autumn and spring rains, so that you may gather in your grain, new wine and oil.”
How's that for assurance?
Deuteronomy 28:12 reads
"The LORD will open for you His good storehouse, the heavens, to give rain to your land in its season and to bless all the work of your hand; and you shall lend to many nations, but you shall not borrow.
I love this one... God has definitely brought this to pass in my life. I no longer borrow money and I am often able to lend a bit out when there's a need :)
Why is it so important to fill your mind with positive messages and to be reminded that as Christians we live on God's financial system - not the world?
Because it's easy to get caught up in the dread and angst of the world's financial situation and start to think that your ideas can't work or you can't charge fair prices for time and products.
You can literally be overcome by a spirit of fear if you're not careful and that's no way to run a business.
I'm not suggesting that we hide from the news or ignore the economy around us completely. What I am saying is that you need to pay MORE attention to what God has to say about your life and business.
